# How do I translate Notify me and back in stock emails?

Add your text for each published store language: the button and form in **Back in stock > Design > Translations**, and each email in its editor's **Language** menu. Shoppers see the text for the language they browse in, and empty fields fall back to your default language.

## Before you start

The app offers the languages you've added and published in Shopify. To add one, go to **Settings > Languages** in your Shopify admin, click **Add language**, then publish it from the languages table ([Shopify's steps](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/international/languages/manage-languages)). Until you have a second published language, the Translations page says so and has nothing to fill in.

## Translate the button and signup form

1. Go to **Back in stock > Design > Translations**.
2. Pick a **Language**.
3. Fill in the fields you want and click **Save**. Each field shows your default-language text as a placeholder, and a field left empty keeps it.

You can translate: Notify me button text, Form heading, Form description, Email placeholder, Form button text, Terms message, the after-signup heading and description, the Invalid email and Something went wrong messages, the name field texts (when the form asks for a name) and the Marketing consent checkbox (when it's on). The heading and description can use {{product_title}}.

The storefront picks the translation for the shopper's exact language first, like pt-BR, then the base language, like pt. While back in stock is active and a published language has no translation, the Back in stock page shows **Some store languages aren't translated** with the languages and an **Add translations** button.

## Translate the emails

1. Open **Back in stock > Notifications** and click an email.
2. On the **Content** tab, pick a language in the **Language** card. It shows when your store has more than one published language.
3. Fill in Subject, Preview text, Heading, Body, Button text and Footer text, then save. Empty fields use your default text.

Each signup keeps the storefront language it was made in. The email uses your text for that language when you've added it, exact language first, then the base language. Otherwise it uses your default text. Prices and dates follow the shopper's language only in emails that have a translation for it. For imported signups, the **locale** column of the CSV sets the language.

Settings that aren't text, like **Button goes to** and **Show the product**, are the same in every language. The Brand tab (logo, colors, fonts) is shared by all languages.

## What isn't translated

- Nothing is machine-translated. Without your text, shoppers see your default language.
- In the standard email design, the small line "Unsubscribe from back in stock alerts." at the bottom stays in English. With custom code on the Code tab you can write it yourself.
- The unsubscribe page the email links to shows in the shopper's language in 33 languages, and in English for the rest.
- Labels like Sold out and Add to cart come from your theme, not the app.
- Emails the app sends to you as the store owner are in English.

## The app's own screens

The app's admin follows the language of your Shopify admin. It's available in English and 24 other languages.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need a translation app for the Notify me button?

No. You type the translations in Back in stock > Design > Translations. You only need the language added and published in Shopify.

### Why do shoppers in another language see my default language?

That language has no translation yet, so your default texts show. Add it in Back in stock > Design > Translations for the button and form, and in each email's Language menu for the emails.
