# Changelog

Merchant-visible changes to SMART Preorder & Back in stock, newest first.

## 2026-11-01: Notify me on older themes

- On older themes that list sold-out variants without a value, such as Debut 2.x, Notify me now sits right under the Sold out button instead of at the bottom of the page. No theme edit needed.

## 2026-11-01: Signup form checks the email domain

- The Notify me form now turns away addresses on domains that can't receive email, like a typo such as gmail.con, and shows your Invalid email message. Those signups could only bounce.
- CSV imports work as before.

## 2026-10-31: Shorter name in the Shopify admin

- The app now shows as **SMART Preorder** in your Shopify admin menu, so the name isn't cut off.
- Rating requests appear as a card on the page instead of a pop-up, and closing one with X hides them for good.

## 2026-10-30: Better button placement on more themes

- On themes that show Shop Pay installments next to the price, such as Horizon, Pitch, Atelier and the Dawn family, Notify me and the pre-order details now sit with the buy button instead of inside the installments area.
- On themes that put the buy buttons in one row, Notify me now goes below the row instead of squeezing in next to Sold out.

## 2026-10-29: Reports in your store's currency

- Reports now shows amounts in your store's currency, also before your first pre-order and for back in stock recovered revenue.

## 2026-10-24: Own sending domain: background checks and Check again

- A sending domain that's waiting for its DNS records is now checked in the background, so your emails switch to your address once it's verified, without reopening Settings.
- If the records weren't found, **Check again** starts a new check, and the card tells you when the DNS records changed.

## 2026-10-24: Notify me stays hidden on variants you still sell

- Variants at 0 that Shopify still sells through **Continue selling when out of stock** no longer show Notify me next to a working Add to cart. Turn on **Also show on pre-order products** if you want it there.

## 2026-10-24: New store levels and sending limits

- New Trial, New and Growing store levels. Daily back in stock email limits now run from 10 for development and trial stores to 20,000 for Shopify Plus and large stores. Only real paid orders count toward a level: test orders and manual payments like cash on delivery don't. See [Plans and limits](https://smart-preorder.com/help/general/plans-and-limits).
- Custom email code and CSV import open at the Growing level, once your store has 10 paid orders in the last 90 days.
- Test emails work on every level again. They go to your store's own email address, up to 10 a day.
- Stores below the Established level have an hourly limit on customer emails. Emails over it wait for the next hour.
- Custom email code with shortened links, links to an IP address, lookalike domains or forms can't be saved.
- Imported signups now wait until the product sells out and comes back before they're emailed.

## 2026-10-23: Starter level for new stores

- Stores under 14 days old, on a Shopify trial, or with no sales and no products on sale yet now start on a Starter level with 25 back in stock emails a day. Development stores get 10 a day.
- On those levels, custom email code, test emails and CSV import are off.
- Your store's level is checked again right away when your Shopify plan changes.

## 2026-10-22: New name: SMART Preorder & Back in Stock

- The app's name in your Shopify admin changed from SMART Preorder & Hide Payment to SMART Preorder & Back in Stock.

## 2026-10-22: No signups while back in stock is off

- Signups are no longer stored while back in stock is turned off, so nobody joins a waitlist you aren't using.

## 2026-10-21: Fix for a blank Add to cart on Expanse and Fetch

- On the Expanse and Fetch themes, Add to cart no longer goes blank after a variant change while back in stock or a pre-order campaign is on.

## 2026-10-20: Custom JavaScript removed from Theme compatibility

- **Settings > Theme compatibility** no longer has a Custom JavaScript field, and custom JavaScript saved earlier no longer runs.
- Custom CSS stays, but CSS that loads files, like url() or @import, can't be saved and doesn't run.

## 2026-10-20: Campaigns with combined listings

- A campaign that included a combined listing product no longer stopped there: the products after it now get their pre-order setup too.

## 2026-10-20: Quick checks after you activate

- After you activate back in stock, the app asks whether you see the Notify me button, and after you activate a payment customization, whether it works at checkout. If it doesn't, your answer opens a chat with our team.
- Campaign and payment customization editors, and the Back in stock design and email pages, have a help card that opens a chat about that page.

## 2026-10-19: A simpler first visit

- On a new store's first visit, Home asks what you want to set up: pre-orders, back in stock or payment customizations. The setup guide then shows only those steps.

## 2026-10-18: Pre-orders and back in stock

- Hide & Sort Payments became **SMART Preorder & Hide Payment**. It's the same app: nothing to reinstall, and your payment rules keep running at checkout, now under **Payment customizations**. Opening the app asks you to approve new permissions, which pre-orders and back in stock need.
- **Pre-order campaigns** for chosen products, collections or your whole store: when a product sells out, always, only while in stock, or as a Coming soon launch with a countdown. Customers pay in full, pay a deposit (a percentage or a fixed amount per item), or pay nothing upfront.
- **Balance charging**: the app charges the remaining balance on the customer's saved payment method a set number of days after checkout, when you fulfill the order, or on a set date, retries failed charges, and then emails a payment link or cancels and refunds, as you choose.
- Pre-order button, badge, countdown and delivery message on product pages and product cards, unit limits checked at checkout, markets, mixed-cart rules and optional fulfillment holds.
- A **Pre-orders** page with Campaigns and Orders tabs, and a page for each pre-order with Collect balance, Release for fulfillment, balance date changes, shipping updates and a timeline.
- **Back in stock**: a Notify me button and signup form on sold-out products, the back in stock email with an optional signup confirmation and reminder, and a signups list with CSV import and export.
- Pre-order and back in stock emails with an editor (Content, Brand and Code), translations for each store language, test emails, and sending from your own domain.
- Shopify Flow triggers and actions, and Klaviyo events, for pre-orders and back in stock.
- A new payment customization editor. Customizations made with older versions of the app open read-only: you can turn them on or off, or delete them.
- The app's admin is available in English and 24 other languages.

## 2026-09-27: Payment rules (Hide & Sort Payments)

- Before pre-orders and back in stock arrived, the app was **Hide & Sort Payments**, a payment rules app for Shopify checkout. This was its last release under that name.
- Payment rules could hide payment methods or show only chosen ones, move them to the top or bottom, sort them A to Z or Z to A, and rename them.
- Rules could depend on the cart (total, quantity, weight, products, collections, product tags), the customer (tags, logged in or not, company) and delivery (country, city, postal code, address, delivery method).
